FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers about training, the cameras, privacy, and how to get started.

01Training

Does strength training reduce running injuries?

Yes, and the evidence is strong. A meta-analysis of 25 trials (Lauersen, British Journal of Sports Medicine, 2014) found strength training cut sports injuries by about two thirds and overuse injuries by almost half. Two short sessions a week is enough to get most of that. Pose Duel exists to make those two sessions happen, and happen well.

02Training

Can beginner runners use Pose Duel?

Yes. Every movement is taught before it is scored. You see the move, do it with a cue on screen, then review the recording. No gym background needed.

03Training

Which exercises does it cover?

Eleven movements today — squats, lunges, planks, jumps and more — covering the standard lower-body and core work you would do at home. You choose which ones are in your program.

04Cameras and feedback

Can a phone camera check squat form?

Yes, for the parts of the squat it can see. From the side, the camera reads depth and trunk angle precisely enough to cue you mid-rep. From the front, it shows knee and foot position on the recording. Pose Duel uses both.

05Cameras and feedback

Why two cameras?

One angle hides what the other shows. The side camera measures depth and trunk position. The front camera captures knees and feet. Together they give a 3D read from devices you already own: a laptop or tablet in front, a phone to the side.

06Cameras and feedback

What is scored live?

Depth and trunk position, on every rep, with the cue on screen while you are still in the movement. Knees and feet are marked on the recording with pointers for what to check. We score what we can measure reliably and show you the rest.

07Cameras and feedback

What counts as a good rep?

A rep that hits the depth and trunk targets for the movement. Those reps count toward your session score and, later, drive the game. Reps that miss get a cue, not a point.

08Cameras and feedback

Why combine live cues with a recording?

A cue during the rep fixes what you can fix now. The recording shows what you could not feel. Research on motor learning supports using both: external feedback in the moment, self-review after.

09Setup and privacy

What do I need to set up?

A laptop or tablet in front, a phone at your side, and about 2 m by 2 m of clear space. Chrome on any reasonably recent laptop — nothing to install, it runs in the browser. Guided pairing brings the two views together.

10Setup and privacy

What equipment do I need?

A laptop or tablet in front of you and a phone to the side, plus about 2 m by 2 m of clear space. Chrome on any reasonably recent laptop — nothing to install, it runs in the browser. No sensors, no console, no wearable.

11Setup and privacy

How much space do I need?

About 2 m by 2 m of clear floor, with both cameras able to see your whole body. The guided setup checks the view before the first rep.

12Setup and privacy

How fast is the feedback?

Under 200 ms on the devices we test on, so the cue lands while you are still in the rep.

13Setup and privacy

Does Pose Duel upload my videos?

Pose estimation runs on your devices, and keypoints (the skeleton, not the picture) are what the score is built on. During the beta, exercise video is also uploaded for AI feedback and review. By default that video is sent as recorded, with no blur. In settings you can blur your face and the background. Full details in the privacy policy.

14Setup and privacy

What happens to my camera footage?

Pose estimation runs locally. Your phone sends its view to the front device, and exercise footage is uploaded as recorded. You can blur your face and the background in settings. You can ask us to delete your data at any time. Joining the waitlist does not grant camera access.

15Progress and early access

Does it connect to Strava or Garmin?

Yes — sessions are meant to sit next to the miles you already log. You’ll be able to connect Pose Duel to Strava, Garmin, and other training apps. Until those links open, each session still produces a card you can share with your coach.

16Progress and early access

What can I share?

Each session produces a card: good reps, score, one coaching note. You can send that to your coach, or connect the session to Strava, Garmin, and other training apps as those links open. Sync is coming with early access.

17Progress and early access

When can I start?

Join the waitlist and we’ll send a confirmation, then an invite when a beta spot opens. Your invitation will explain availability and next steps. Motion Lab games open as modules become ready.

18Progress and early access

How much does Pose Duel cost?

The waitlist and the beta are free. Beta members get a founder price on the first paid plan before anyone else sees it. Joining the list commits you to nothing.

19Progress and early access

Do I need weights?

No. The beta is bodyweight and whatever you have at home.

20Progress and early access

Do I need a coach or trainer to use it?

No. Sensible defaults are included, and you pick the exercises. If someone qualified has given you exercises, keep following their advice.

21Progress and early access

Can someone under 18 play?

Not yet. The beta is for adults 18 or older, and minors cannot play during the beta. Family and team programs for younger athletes will come later, with their own terms. Parents and coaches are welcome to join the waitlist for themselves now.

22Progress and early access

Is it medical advice?

No. Pose Duel’s coaching is AI, not a health professional, and it is not medical advice. If a professional has given you exercises, keep following their advice.
